Altermidya demands release of community journalist arrested with 61 others in Negros

Raid led by police, SWAT & CIDG on the office of Gabriela in Bacolod City. Photo taken by community journalist Anne Krueger before she was arrested with 61 others in simultaneous raids on October 31.

Altermidya condemns in strongest terms the arrest of our colleague, Anne Krueger of Negros-based community media outfit Paghimutad. Krueger is named in the search warrant issued by a Quezon City local court that was used to justify the raids in offices of several organizations in Bacolod City.

Paghimutad, a new member of Altermidya Network, has been documenting and reporting on the de facto martial rule in Negros island.

We deem that the arrest of Krueger is meant to hide the truth from the public. A few minutes before she was arrested, Krueger went on Facebook live to document the search, exposing the irregularities in the operations undertaken by authorities.

Altermidya demands the immediate release of Krueger and the dismissal of any charges against her.

Krueger is also an organizer for the BPO Industry Employees’ Network or BIEN.
