Ang Oscar Awards 2016
March 1, 2016

Life lessons matapos ang 2016 Oscar Awards ceremonies:

Una, self-reflexive naman, parang multicultural rainbow ang presentors at guests, especially in the aisles, and in the premier seats, kasi nga ay may valid criticism sa all-white acting nominees;

Ikalawa, kahit pa may paborito (ako, “The Big Short” for all its pessimism na we’re doomed), di talaga ito nagwo-work, ang mananalo pa rin ay ang predictable choices ng pretend Hollywood progressives;

Ikatlo, salamat naman at nanalo na si Leonardo Dicaprio, at least gagaan na (wala nang attack ng bear, paglangoy sa winter river waters, paggapang sa winter na lupa, etc.), we can move on to more erudite (gaan) roles for him;

Ikaapat, kelangan talaga nag-rehearse ng acceptance speech a la Leonardo, di pwede ang usual prototypes (note sa Pinas winners, walang nagpasalamat kay Lord!), at ang nagma-matter ay political causes, di pwedeng tungkol lang sa inyo at inyong groupies ang panalo ninyo;

Ikalima, boring din ang awards ceremonies kahit pa Hollywood ito na global ang scope (may gad, global ang scope ng nominees, at ethnicities at nationalities ng nanalo), pero ang global audience endures dahil ito ang hip (kuntodo ang violence against women and men, lack of color sa Oscars) global spectacle of the day;

Ikaanim, sa Pinas at likely elsewhere, ang access ng nakararami sa Oscar-nominated films ay sa Torrents downloads, kaya to be in, kelangan may akses sa torrents o sa masipag na friends na may akses dito;

Ikapito, ang nanalo sa best foreign language film ay “Son of Saul” (Hungary), na tungkol (na naman) sa Nazi at ang karumaldumal na ginawa sa Jews (hmm, labas na nga yang Pinoy film tungkol sa Jews na nag-seek refuge sa bansa noong World War II);

Ikawalo, overstretched itong political correctness hinggil sa white Oscars, at parochialism ng issues (Girl Scout cookies, mainly blacks interviewed for reverse cultural gaps sa kanilang inability to watch films outside their own ethnicity, etc.), in the end, ang Hollywood ay hindi Oscars ay hindi global cinema pa rin;

Ikasiyam, iisa ang Asianong presentor, at wala pa ring nominated na Philippine film dahil ang laro sa Oscars ay laro pa rin ng pera para sa akses sa public relations networks at international art film festival circuits;

At ikasampu, abangan ang impact ng Oscars sa local awards.
