SATIRE: Did Oxford University install a ‘No Questions About Marcos Jr.’ sign?
February 11, 2022

A Twitter user named “Philippine Daily Sun” posted a photo claiming that the Oxford University Registrar’s Office installed a sign connected to presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The photo showed a sign in front of one of Oxford’s buildings, which stated, “No more questions about F. Marcos Jr. allowed. No, he did not graduate here.”

Claim:

The Oxford University Registrar’s Office has imposed a “no more questions about Marcos Jr.” policy.

Rating:

This is SATIRE.

Facts:

The Philippine Daily Sun’s Twitter bio clearly states that it is a satire account. Their content usually consists of commentaries about national and political issues.

The photo of the alleged signage in their tweet is a stock photo from iStock that has been edited to match the stock photo of Oxford University.

However, the post is correct in saying that Marcos Jr. did not graduate from Oxford University. The son of the late dictator did not finish his degree in BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics in the said university. Instead, he was given a special diploma in Social Studies. Oxford has already clarified that such a diploma is not equivalent to a college degree.

Aside from Oxford University, Marcos Jr. also failed to finish his studies at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In a report by Vera Files, it was explained how the dictator’s son was able to enter Wharton School sans an undergraduate degree, largely due to the late president’s connections.

Why It Matters:

“Philippine Daily Sun” is a Twitter account that posts satirical tweets about political issues. While satirical posts are not meant to be taken seriously, the said post again highlights the presidential candidate’s long-time claim about his educational background, a claim that so many people have disputed over and over again, with many going as far as sending Oxford University formal inquiries about it. This is believed to be the main point of the said satirical post.

As of writing, Philippine Daily Sun has 1,857 followers, and the tweet has 41 replies, 185 retweets, 87quote tweets, and 888 Likes. -Rome Medina and Neil Dizon
