On April 16, SMNI posted a YouTube video titled ‘Atty. Gadon: Yung People Power Revolution, Fake yan.’ The video is part of an interview done by SMNI owner Apollo Quiboloy with senatorial aspirant and suspended lawyer Lorenzo ‘Larry’ Gadon, where he claims that the people who marched to the streets in what would later be called “EDSA People Power” participated only to avail of free food and entertainment.
CLAIM:
‘People Power’ participants only went to EDSA for ‘food and entertainment’
RATING:
FALSE
FACTS:
The 1986 EDSA People Power has been well-documented, and many eyewitnesses and participants in that historic uprising tell stories of how many participants even shared food and water to people gathered in EDSA. No EDSA People Power veteran has ever recounted that they went to the demonstration to eat and watch artists perform.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Despite being the subject of several fact-check reports, Gadon and SMNI continue to release material that contain disinformation. SMNI has 1.01 million subscribers on YouTube. As of this writing, Gadon’s interview already gained 104,799 views, 5,300 likes and 795 comments. – Vanessa Adolfo and Jamaica Marciano
