FALSE: Apollo Quiboloy is not on FBI watchlist, SMNI claims
April 26, 2022

On April 15, a certain “Anna Malindog-Uy” who calls herself a researcher and academic, posted on her Facebook account a slew of allegations against Rappler and GMA News calling the news organizations “insecure, bitter, desperate” and “exaggerated” and are consequently liars, for reporting that SMNI’s owner and leader of the church group, Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC), Apollo Quiboloy js on the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) “Most Wanted List.”

Malindog-Uy was reacting to reports released by GMA News reporter Sandra Aguinaldo and Rappler reporter Lian Buan. She further argued that Quiboloy has yet to be convicted in court, and should therefore not be labeled as a “fugitive” or “on the FBI’s wanted list.”

Por dios por santo naman, may tinatawag tayong presumption of innocence [for God’s sake, we have what we call presumption of innocence],” said the self-proclaimed political analyst.

Malindog-Uy has appeared as a commentator for SMNI on several occasions.

CLAIM:

Apollo Quiboloy is not on FBI watchlist, SMNI commentator claims

RATING:

FALSE

FACTS:

The FBI released a “wanted poster for fugitive Apollo Quiboloy” following an indictment by a federal grand jury for cases including sex trafficking, fraud and coercion, and bulk cash smuggling.

The Philippines’ Justice and Foreign Affairs Department both said that they have yet to receive a formal extradition request from the US State Department for Quiboloy.

As regards the accusation that Quiboloy’s cases are “politically motivated,” the US Embassy in Manila has denied such claims, saying that pursuing the cases “follows a multi-year effort by law enforcement. It is unrelated to the Philippines’ ongoing presidential election campaign.”

WHY IT MATTERS:

Quiboloy owns and controls SMNI, which has been featured in several fact-check reports due to its consistent release of disinformation materials. Malindog-Uy’s post already has 284 likes.– Vivian Vera
